A Message from Your H.S.A. President

Dear Families,

While sitting in Mass a couple of weekends ago, I felt as if the readings and Homily were directed right at me to assist me in writing this month’s newsletter.  The readings the weekend of October 13-14th centered on stewardship spirituality.  The priest summarized this into a simple phrase “All I have is a gift from God and I must make a grateful return to Him for all He has given me.”  While this summarization can take on many different meanings for each one of us as we travel through our daily lives, for me, at this given time, it spoke to the importance of giving of ourselves to help others as well as leading our children by our example to understand the importance of being involved in our community.  We are very blessed in that when we ask our children to serve others, they do so willingly and with a smile on their face and in their heart.  I ask that you also prayerfully consider giving of your time and talents to help our school community.  We need new volunteers to share their talents as many of our current volunteers will be graduating within the next year.  The HSA executive committee and event chair people are dedicated to ensuring each new volunteer has the right tools to be successful!  Please reach out to me with any interest you may have in being a steward in our school community; I will be happy to find an activity that will work within the confines of your busy schedule!

Many words of thanks go out to the Fall Festival committee!  What a wonderful time was had by all in attendance.  The final numbers are still being calculated but it does appear that we have exceeded our budget.  There were some wonderful new additions to the weekend which will return next year – the pony and unicorn rides were certainly enjoyed by many!  Our adult community relaxed in the beer garden to the sounds of a great band.  Our children’s screams and laughs were heard all around the ES Campus as they enjoyed the many rides and game booths!  Thank you to all of the parents and students who volunteered some of their time to make the event a success.  This community fundraiser is a well-oiled machine with many moving parts and each one of you play an important role in keeping it running!  We are still looking for a family or group of families to take this event over.  If you have any interest, please contact me.  We would like the new chairperson to work with Jen Stuart next year to experience how it all works!

Princesses, Clowns, Disney Characters, Dinosaurs, Trophies, and even an Astronaut Unicorn were seen wondering the grounds of the Middle School at this year’s Trunk or Treat!  The weather was perfect for an evening of fellowship and fun!  A cauldron full of thanks to our awesome chair people, Deanna Townsley and Christine Holtzman, for organizing this evening of fun!  They and their committee kept many children entertained with a hay maze, pumpkin decorating, costume contests, and, of course, lots of candy!  Thank you to all of the families for ensuring this event was a safe and exciting one for our children!  Everyone looks forward to this frightfully fun night!  Take a moment to look at the pictures posted on the SMS Facebook page.

November 7th is this year’s first open house.  The open house runs from 8:30am until 12pm.  If you would like to share your love of our school with others, please contact Mrs. Pleiss (cpleiss@smsch.org).  If you refer a family who enrolls at SMS, you will receive a $500 tuition credit!

As I’m sure you saw, we did cancel this year’s Bull Roast which was scheduled for November 17th.  We are planning on working with the school and the parish to secure a date to hold this event next year.  We will need a chairperson to lead the event.  If you are interested please let me know.

The class projects which are a huge hit with our children and families will continue!  We will hold an online auction during Catholic Schools Week.  Room parents will be working with the classes and teachers to create a special class memory which you will be able to bid on in January.

Just a reminder –Spirit Wear is available for order online at the following link: https://sms2018-19.itemorder.com/sale.  Please place your order by November 2nd to ensure an on-time Christmas delivery!

I would like to take this time to wish you and your families the Happiest of Thanksgivings!  May your time together be full of peace, fun, and lots of turkey!

Fall Blessings!

Judith
