A Message from Your H.S.A. President

Dear Families,

Hopefully everyone is settling in for a great school year!  It has been a pleasure speaking with many of you at the Back to School Orientation meetings.  As I stated during those meetings, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.  I relish the opportunity to be able to learn more from each of you as to what you would like from your HSA team!

As Mrs. Hobik has shared with us, the Department of Catholic Schools has designated this year as “The Year of Service.”  As we enter into this year, I ask that you keep this theme in mind and assist us in serving our school community by generously offering your time in support of our many events as many hands make lighter work for all!

The Fall Festival is right around the corner and the excitement can be felt in the air.  We are praying for beautiful rain-free weather and an enjoyable time for all of our guests!  Our committee is still in need of volunteers to keep everything running smoothly and to allow the children to have the best time possible.  The adult sign-up genius can be found at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090845a5a922a46-2018.  A sign-up genius for high school students in need of service hours can be found at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090845a5a922a46-20183.  Remember, each family is asked to volunteer for 2 hours per child attending SMS.  Please plan on joining us for a safe, fun-filled weekend of great food and wonderful friends!  We look forward to seeing each of you.

Have you seen our new Spirit Wear items?!  The committee has worked diligently with our vendor to bring you new items at a reasonable price!  New items have the new logo – St. Margaret – printed on them and will be available for purchase and ordering at the Fall Festival.  This year we are going to offer our Spirit Wear at some of our events but also place on-line orders 3 times this year.  Our first order will be placed on November 2nd to ensure your items are available for Christmas.  You will be able to place your orders on line through the school website at the following link: https://yorktownesports.com/product-category/saint-margaret-2016

Are you already tired of packing lunches every day?  Never fear – Doug Meyer and his hot lunch volunteers are here!  Our first Tuesday lunch is scheduled for October 2nd and is coming from Chick-fil-A! Our Tuesday lunch restaurants rotate weekly and include: Chick-fil-A, Buontempo’s, Subway, Royal Farms, and Boston Market.  New items have been added to the menus and you can place your orders for October through December now!  Orders needs to be placed by the 15th of the month prior.  You can find the link to the online ordering via the SMS website, under resources, hot lunch, or at this link:  https://smsch.org/resources/hot-lunch.  On Wednesdays and Thursdays you have an option to order from Good Taste Catering.  Orders for these two days need to be placed seven days in advance.  Give your child a treat and treat yourself to a couple of evenings of no lunch making!  If you would like to volunteer to help Doug and his team deliver lunches, please contact him at bdmeyer22@aol.com for details.

Our next family-fun event is Trunk or Treat!  Children of all ages love this time of year.  The event takes place on the Middle School parking lot on Saturday, October 20th.  The price is $20 per car.  I encourage you to team up with another family or two and share the parking space as we’d love to have as many of our SMS families attend as possible.  You will receive an alert now one week prior to the order form coming home.  Each family will only be allowed to purchase 1 ticket.  Parents will need to walk the order form into the school when school opens – no forms will be taken prior to the official opening of school.  This event has sold out for the past 5 years.  We are in need of volunteers for this event as well.  If you are a committee member, you are guaranteed a ticket to the event (it is not free but it is guaranteed).  To become a committee member, please contact Deanna Townsley at deannatownsley@yahoo.com.  There will be the annual costume and car decorating contests,  crafts, pumpkin activities, and, of course, trunk or treating!  Don’t forget to bring your candy. Last year, the children were so polite when going trunk to trunk for candy!  Let’s please remember that this is a family event and thus no alcohol should be brought on to the school premises.

We are still looking for a family or two to step up and chair the Fall Festival beginning in 2020.  Next year, this person would shadow Jen Stuart and her committee to ensure a smooth transition.  Please contact me at smshsapresident@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more.

Just as a reminder, the 2018-2019 HSA Executive committee members are:  President: Judith Kopp, Vice President: Doug Meyer, Treasurer: Valerie Provenza, Recording Secretary: Andrea Richie, Corresponding Secretary: Jennifer Andrews, Delegates: Colleen Grayson, Robyn Wiegert, Dana Calvin, Julia Bacso.

Happy September,

Judith
