A Message from Your H.S.A. President

Dear Families,

Is Spring ever going to arrive?!  Snow is one of those four letter words that brings a rush of emotions to everyone.  It’s a beautiful blanket covering the gorgeous landscape that children (and even some of us adults) love to play in.  But that blanket can also feel smothering and bothersome when we can’t leave our homes, the kids are off of school another day (will we ever get out!), events are cancelled or when the playtime turns into shoveling time.  Hopefully, the beautiful white blanket will be put away soon and the spring flowers will start to pop through the earth bringing lots of sunshine and warm days with them!

Many exciting events have taken place in the past month and I would like to thank all of you for being so supportive of the HSA.  The online auction items were extremely creative and heartwarming.  The amount of time and dedication our room parents or class volunteers put in to these projects was amazing!  I need to also thank Theresa DiPaula for her endless trips to and from the school campuses to capture the perfect pictures, her excellent organizational skills which ensured the online success, and her patience while we moved items around to accommodate other activities occurring during Catholic Schools Week!  The auction brought in a little over $1500.

Our Bingo event under the extremely careful and phenomenal watch of Gail Rohleder and Melissa Reuter was a huge success!  These ladies worked endlessly to ensure our school and neighborhood community enjoyed a delicious dinner by Conrad’s, purses and bags that were nicer than any I own, and raffle baskets which were bursting at the seams!  The 50/50 raffle prize winner was able to leave $1,100 richer than when they arrived, and the winner of the $1,000 jackpot game had a pretty large grin on her face!  The small but mighty team of volunteers coupled with Gail and Melissa’s many skills allowed over 500 people to enjoy a great evening!  Gail and Melissa, thank you for your dedication to our school and the children as well as your flexibility with having to utilize our snow date!  And, Mr. Doran, your bingo calling skills were spot on!

Now, on to the upcoming events!  Have you gotten your tickets for the 7th Annual Corn Toss?  This is being held in the Elementary School Gym on Saturday, March 2nd at 7:30pm (doors open at 6:30pm).  Tickets are $20 per person and a team is made up of 2 people.  Don’t worry if you don’t have a team, contact Jeff Cellio and he will ensure you have a partner in the tournament.  There’s a cash prize at the end of the evening for the winning team.  If you don’t want to play, come out and socialize with us!  Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event.

March 15th will be the highly anticipated (rescheduled thanks to the four-letter word – Snow) afternoon at Ice World for the students.  Skate rentals are $4 (cash please) but admission cost is covered by the HSA.  We hope as many students and parents can enjoy this afternoon.  Please remember – a responsible adult must be present for each child.

March 26th is the HSA Open Meeting.  We encourage everyone to attend this informative meeting.  The team is working in conjunction with the faculty to bring a guest speaker to the event.  We also will have a social time for parents to enjoy each other’s company and learn more about the events the HSA sponsors.  This is also a time where you can bring forward new ideas and suggestions to make the HSA an even stronger organization.  At any time, please feel welcome to reach out to any of us with your thoughts and concerns; my email is always open (smshsapresident@gmail.com).

And to round out the month of March…. can you smell it…. the annual Spaghetti Dinner!  Mangia!  Mangia!  This evening a wonderful Italian dinner is freshly prepared in the ES gym for you and your family.  Deanna Townsley and her incredible team will transform the gym into an Italian restaurant full of flavor and fun!  The young and young at heart will also have an opportunity to spin the FREE toy wheel, interact with the balloon artist, enjoy a Photo Booth, and participate in raffles and a Big 6 Wheel.  Tickets go on sale February 27th – please get them ASAP as this event sells out every year! Volunteers are needed to support this event.  If you can help in any way (set up, clean up, and/or 30-minute shifts during the event), please contact Deanna at deannatownsley@yahoo.com

Stay safe and warm and pray for Spring!
