As we move further into the school year, the forecast inevitably begins to include the possibility of snow, ice, and wintry weather. At our school, the safety of our students, families, and staff is always our highest priority. To ensure clarity and a unified approach, we want to remind everyone of our official inclement weather policy.

This policy, guided by the Department of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese, is designed for simplicity and alignment with our local community.

Our Guiding Principle: Follow Harford County Public Schools (HCPS)

In the event of severe weather, our school will follow the operational decisions made by Harford County Public Schools. As our county jurisdiction, their assessments of road conditions and regional safety determine our actions. This provides a consistent standard for our entire community.

Here’s what this means for you:

  • If HCPS is CLOSED → Our school is CLOSED.

  • If HCPS has a DELAYED OPENING → Our school will open with the same delay.

  • If HCPS announces an EARLY DISMISSAL → Our school will also dismiss early.

Important Note for EDC Families: Our Extended Day Care (EDC) Program will follow the same determinations. If HCPS cancels all afternoon and evening activities, our EDC will also be canceled for that day.

Dear St. Margaret Families, ​ Following Harford County Public Schools' decision to close schools due to weather conditions, St. Margaret School will be closed on Thursday, January 29, and on Friday, January 30. Although students have not been assigned specific work from their teachers, instead we encourage our asynchronous work to include students playing outside, spending time in prayer, reading, drawing a picture, or writing a paragraph about their snow day experiences. These experiences can be shared with their teachers and classmates when we return to school. Information will be sent regarding the HSA-sponsored Movie event.
